l  Molecular Imaging – PET CT

Ruby Hall launches the ultimate cancer diagnosis….

The very first installation of time of flight PET CT scanning in India (as well as in Asia),has been launched at the Molecular Imaging Center of Ruby Hall Cancer Centre.
With this, Ruby Hall Clinic starts its Fight Against Cancer with the worldwide accepted “Ultimate in Cancer Diagnosis” technology - PET CT.

This ‘combined modality’ uses brand new, state of the art, extremely sensitive and accurate, PET (Positron Emission Tomography). This is fused with the time proven CT scanning, which makes it even more useful.

As per the worldwide case studies, the PET CT scanning changes the treatment plan in as many as 40% of the diagnosed Cancer cases.

Gemini TF— A Time of Flight PET technology with 16-slice High Resolution Diagnostic CT, is the next generation PET scanning equipment. It gives less radiation exposure to the patient, finishes the scanning very fast and has unique “Open gantry” design, which suits all the patients, those with claustrophobia, those with high BMI and even children who need parents presence during the scanning.
Who should get a “PET CT Scan”?

A person with suspicion of cancer… is the first suitable candidate as the PET scan can be useful in deciding whether the cancer is present or not. The newly diagnosed cancer patient will be next group, where PET scan can accurately decide the “Stage” of the cancer, which ultimately decides the treatment. In all patients those who are undergoing treatment, either already operated, taking chemotherapies, or radiation treatment, a PET scan can tell “How the treatment is working” or “Whether the treatment is successful”. It is extremely helpful in patients who have finished treatment and would like to know whether the disease exists elsewhere in the body.

The PET CT scan is always “A Whole body PET scan” and thus “everything from top to bottom is checked” for any disease.
Can it be used for “Non-cancer patients”?

Yes!  Patients having heart problems, is another group which benefit from a PET scan. After a heart attack, the heart muscle gets damaged…. But every time the damage may not total and there can be “viable” part of the heart muscle, which can be salvaged by angioplasty or by-pass surgery. PET scan helps the cardiologist to decide how much is still viable and blood supply can be restored using appropriate methods. PET scanning can also be used to evaluate degenerative brain disorders, dementias, and is very useful in understanding brain tumors.
